Choosing paint protection film starts with understanding the material, the coverage and the installation process. Here are answers to common questions about ordering and using ArmorWrap products.
Film Choices
What is paint protection film?
Paint protection film, often called PPF or clear bra, is a protective film applied over vulnerable areas of a vehicle. It provides a barrier against everyday abrasion and road debris that can otherwise mark the finish.
Clear PPF allows the paint color to show through. It helps reduce damage, but it does not make a vehicle immune to chips, scratches or impacts.
Why choose a ArmorWrap precut kit?
We combine vehicle-specific patterns with a choice of film grades, online installation guidance and customer support. You can select the available coverage that suits your vehicle and project rather than purchasing a full package you do not need.
When comparing kits, check both the film and the pattern. A similar product name or lower price does not necessarily mean the same material, coverage or included pieces.
Which of the three film options should I choose?
Our precut kit options include:
- ArmorWrap Premium: a 5-year warranty option.
- 3M Scotchgard Pro: a 10-year warranty option.
- ArmorWrap Ultra: a lifetime warranty option, with a glossy, hydrophobic finish.
The film specifications supplied for these options list an 8-mil thickness. Compare the product details and applicable warranty terms before choosing. Warranty length alone does not mean every type of damage or installation issue is covered.
Need help deciding? Tell us your vehicle, the areas you want to protect and whether you plan to install the kit yourself.
Should the film or backing have a printed logo?
Your precut film may arrive on plain backing paper without printed brand logos. The protective film itself is not intended to display branding on your vehicle.
If you have a question about the material received, contact us with your order number before installation.
How noticeable is clear PPF after installation?
Clear film is intended to be discreet while allowing the original paint color to remain visible. Depending on lighting, paint color, viewing angle and the pattern, you may notice an edge or a slight difference in appearance.
Partial hood coverage leaves an edge across the panel. Full-panel coverage can move that boundary toward the panel perimeter, depending on the available pattern. Gloss black PPF is a separate product intended to change the covered area's appearance.
How does PPF compare with spray-on protection?
PPF forms a physical film layer over the surface. Products described as spray-on protection vary considerably: some are coatings, while others form a removable layer.
Compare the specific product's intended protection, durability, maintenance and removal requirements. A spray-on finish should not automatically be treated as equivalent to paint protection film.
Coverage & Fit
Which parts of my vehicle can I protect?
Available patterns vary by year, make, model and trim. Common options include hoods, fenders, mirrors and bumpers. Some vehicles also have patterns for headlights, rocker panels, door cups, door edges and other wear areas.
Use the vehicle finder and review each product's coverage diagram. You can purchase individual available pieces without buying every section of the vehicle.
Why are there different hood coverage sizes?
Different sizes let you balance coverage and cost. Depending on the vehicle, options may include patterns cut from 12-, 18-, 24- or 30-inch material, as well as full-hood coverage.
The material size is not always the finished coverage depth. For example, a pattern cut from a 24-inch sheet may provide about 20–23 inches of coverage because of its shape and layout.
Some smaller hood options may not include fender pieces. Check the listing rather than assuming every size includes the same components.
Will the mirror pieces cover the entire painted mirror?
Not necessarily. Strongly curved mirror housings can make complete coverage difficult to apply. Many patterns concentrate on the forward-facing area most exposed to road debris.
Flatter mirror designs may allow more coverage. If the diagram does not answer your question, contact us before ordering and we can help clarify the pattern.
Are parking sensor and headlight washer openings precut?
That depends on the available bumper pattern and vehicle options. A question about sensors or washers helps us identify your bumper; it does not by itself guarantee that every opening is precut.
Review the diagram and contact us if a required opening is not clearly shown. Include your vehicle details and, if possible, a photo of the bumper.
Should a precut piece fit edge to edge before stretching?
Some patterns are designed to be stretched into their final position. This helps the material follow curves and distribute excess film that could otherwise form wrinkles.
Other patterns intentionally leave a small exposed edge or include material for wrapping an edge. Follow the pattern's intended installation method. If a piece appears wrong, stop and contact us before applying excessive stretch or cutting it.
What if my vehicle or trim is missing from the catalog?
Contact us with the year, make, model, trim and the areas you want to protect. A pattern may be available even if it has not yet been added to the website.
For bumpers and other option-dependent parts, a clear photo can help us identify the correct version.
Is headlight protection a different material?
The headlight kits described in our standard range use the same 8-mil film as our paint protection kits. Check the individual product listing for the material and coverage supplied.
Can I apply PPF to chrome, plastic or textured trim?
Our PPF is primarily intended for suitable smooth, painted automotive surfaces. Chrome, unpainted plastic, textured trim and rubberized finishes can behave differently and may not provide reliable adhesion.
Long-term adhesion on those surfaces is not guaranteed. Ask us about your intended application before ordering.
Installation
Can a first-time installer apply a precut kit?
DIY installation is possible, but the difficulty varies by panel, pattern and your experience. Smaller or flatter pieces are generally more manageable than deeply curved bumpers and mirrors.
Allow time to prepare, watch the videos and understand how the film is positioned and stretched. Tools and instructions help, but they cannot guarantee an individual installation result. Use an experienced installer if you are uncomfortable with the task.
Where can I find installation instructions?
Our How to Install page covers tools, 32-ounce solution recipes, preparation and panel-specific application steps. Your order also includes a link to the online installation videos.
Review the relevant instructions before removing the backing liner. If your video link is missing, contact us with your order number.
Which tools do I need, and are they included?
Our installation kit includes two 32-ounce spray bottles, a squeegee, a snap-off blade knife and a microfiber towel. You will also need the solution ingredients listed in the installation guide.
A complimentary installation kit and door edge guards are automatically added when your eligible precut PPF subtotal reaches $75 or more. Bulk film and tools alone do not qualify for this precut-film offer.
Check the gift lines in your cart before purchasing an installation kit separately. You can also buy individual tools here.
What if I need to replace one piece after installation?
Contact us with your order number and identify the piece you need. A photo of the pattern or affected area can help us locate the correct section.
If you purchased installation insurance, refer to the terms and replacement instructions provided with your order. Any discount, eligibility period or other conditions are governed by that offer.
Can you help me find a professional installer?
Contact us with your location and we can check whether installer information is available for your area. Availability varies.
Independent installers handle their own pricing, scheduling and workmanship. Confirm that they will install customer-supplied film and discuss the proposed coverage before booking.
Can I remove the film and use it again?
No. PPF is not a reusable accessory. Once installed and later removed, it should not be transferred to another panel or vehicle.
Repositioning wet film during its initial application is different from removing a completed installation for reuse.
Care, Paint Condition & Warranty
How should I care for the film?
Follow the aftercare instructions for your selected film, including the waiting period before washing or applying any finishing product. Clean gently with suitable mild products and avoid abrasive polishes, rubbing compounds and products that can stain the film.
Keep residue from building up along exposed edges. Before using a wax, coating or cleaner, check that it is compatible with your particular PPF.
If you are unsure which instructions apply to your order, contact us before treating the surface.
Can installation or removal damage the paint?
PPF is intended to protect suitable automotive paint, but paint condition, previous repairs, installation and removal technique all matter. We cannot promise damage-free results on every finish.
Repainted, poorly bonded or already damaged paint needs particular attention. Unpainted and non-factory finishes are not covered by a blanket fit or adhesion guarantee.
Clean the surface before checking a piece's fit. Do not slide dirty or dry backing across paint, and never cut directly against the vehicle's finish.
How long should I wait after repainting my vehicle?
Ask the body shop or paint-system supplier when the finish is ready for adhesive film. Curing requirements vary with the paint system and the refinishing process.
Do not rely on a universal waiting period or assume that paint which feels dry is ready for PPF.
What warranty comes with the film?
The advertised warranty options are 5 years for ArmorWrap Premium, 10 years for 3M Scotchgard Pro and lifetime for ArmorWrap Ultra.
Coverage concerns eligible film defects such as cracking, peeling or discoloration, subject to the applicable written terms. It does not mean protection against every road impact, vandalism, normal wear or installation error.
Installer qualifications, registration requirements and replacement terms may affect eligibility. Do not assume that a DIY installation receives the same manufacturer coverage as a qualifying professional installation.
Ask us for the warranty terms for your chosen film before purchase. Keep your order details if you need help with a possible film defect.
Can the film be removed later?
Yes, PPF can be removed, but the appropriate technique depends on the film's age and condition and the paint underneath it.
Follow the film's removal guidance or use an experienced installer, especially on repainted surfaces or older film. Avoid scraping with a blade or pulling aggressively. Check paint compatibility before using any adhesive remover.
Orders, Shipping & Support
Where do you ship?
ArmorWrap ships to the United States and Canada. Available services and prices are shown at checkout based on your destination and cart.
Read our Shipping & Delivery page for additional details.
How does free U.S. shipping work?
Free basic U.S. shipping is available for qualifying orders of $75 or more that include an eligible vehicle-catalog PPF product. A mixed cart can qualify; bulk film or tools alone do not meet the vehicle-product requirement.
Canadian orders and expedited upgrades are not part of the free basic U.S. shipping offer. Review the available shipping options and final charges at checkout.
How soon will my order ship?
Precut kits are made to order. Please allow up to five days for your order to ship, as described on our Shipping & Delivery page.
Production time and carrier transit time are separate. Selecting a faster shipping service does not automatically eliminate the time needed to prepare your kit. Contact us before ordering if you have a specific deadline.
What is your return policy?
Review our Terms & Conditions before ordering, particularly the provisions for custom-made products.
If something appears incorrect or defective, contact us with your order number and photos before installing, modifying or returning the item.
Do you sell film by the foot?
Yes. Visit Bulk Films & Tools for available materials, widths and installation supplies.
For film sold by the linear foot, the quantity normally determines the length while the listed width stays fixed. Check the individual product description for ordering examples and how the material is supplied.
Can you review a competitor's price?
Contact us before ordering with the competing listing and the product you are considering. Include the film grade, vehicle, coverage and delivered price so the comparison is meaningful.
Any price adjustment must be confirmed by us; sending a listing does not automatically create a price-match discount.
Do you work with dealers or professional installers?
Contact us with your business details and the products you are interested in purchasing. We can discuss whether suitable purchasing options are available.
How can I speak with someone before ordering?
